Louis de Gama shop

East London based, Portuguese designer Louis de Gama opens his first shop this week. Louis gained a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design from the University of Westminster and spent his first few years after graduating working alongside Salvatore (bespoke tailoring), Tristan Webber and the renowned duo Boudicca.

Louis established his label Louis de Gama in 2000 with the launch of the first collection for London Fashion Week; the entire collection was subsequently bought by the acclaimed shop Brown Focus. The label is sold in selected boutiques in LA, NY, Tokyo, Dublin, Athens, Lisbon, and London and will now be available from Louis de Gama’s own store at 5 Cheshire Street, Brick Lane, which is a stone’s throw from his showroom.

The shop will carry the full Louis de Gama collection with prices starting at £75 as well as the designer’s first diffusion line – LdG by Louis de Gama with prices from £45.

Louis de Gama announces diffusion line
Jan 09

LdG by Louis de Gama is the first diffusion range by the UK based designer Louis de Gama.

Inspired by a desire to have his clothes seen and worn by a wider range of people, the designer created the capsule LdG by Louis de Gama range. The A/W 09 range is truly a diffusion of the main collection with each piece referencing a design from Louis de Gama’s archive of his career to date. The collection acts as a pocket guide for a youth market to the Louis de Gama brand.

The range consists of a clutch of hard working gorgeous dresses and shirtdresses as happy in the office or strolling along the Seine, as they would be at a dinner date or dancing the night away.

Each dress is deceptively simple with the emphasis being on form and silhouette. Covered buttons are not only functional but a clever feature; ruching is used on patched pockets and caps, which are built into narrow straight sleeves. Geometric shapes are developed into double-breasted lapels, diagonal buttoned bibs and inverted bib shapes caught onto the bodice also feature. There are dresses with built in waistcoats and cup dresses with full skirts with zigzag built in panelling. Hemlines fall mainly above the knee and the dresses are all made of silk satin, with contrasts in cotton and chiffon. Colours are monochrome, black, cream and muted shades of green and beige.
